The New York Mets are reportedly closing in on a MLB record three-year, $120 million deal with Los Angeles Dodgers starter Max Scherzer which would set the league record for average annual value, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi.
There are a number of contract scenarios in play between the Mets and the reps for Scherzer, but reports indicated that the two sides are close to finalizing a multi-year contract. However, a deal is not considered to be done at this point.
Following his mid-season trade to the Dodgers, Scherzer posted a 7-0 record with a 1.98 ERA during the regular season. Scherzer carried similar success into the playoffs, picking up after a bit of a rocky performance in the National League Wild Card Game to dominate against the San Francisco Giants.
Scherzer struggled with a dead arm during the NLCS against the Atlanta Braves, who defeated the Dodgers in 6 games.
