Philadelphia 76ers franchise big man Joel Embiid isn’t too happy about the sea of Knicks fans who invaded Wells Fargo Center on Sunday afternoon to watch the New York Knicks take a 3-1 lead over the Sixers following a 97-92 victory.
The Knicks fans flooded the Sixers home court and made it feel more like a Knicks home playoff game then one for the Sixers.
“Disappointing,” Embiid said, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. “I love our fans. Think it’s unfortunate, and I’m not calling them out, but it is disappointing. Obviously, you got a lot of Knicks fans, and they’re down the road.
“[But] I’ve never seen it, and I’ve been here for 10 years. Yeah, it kind of pisses me off, especially because Philly is considered a sports town. They’ve always shown up, and I don’t think that should happen. Yeah, it’s not OK.”
“Our crowd did a great job,” 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey said of the crowd. “We appreciate them. It’s a close two organizations. Like they’re right up the street from us, honestly. So, it is what it is, and you just got to go out there and you got to defeat that.”
“Not going to lie, this Philadelphia fan base, I’ve said this before, they’re very relentless, very passionate,” Knicks guard Jalen Brunson said. “I mean, I’m an Eagles fan. I would know.
“But seeing the Knicks, hearing the Knicks here is pretty cool. It’s awesome.”
