The Phoenix Suns are on the verge of eliminating the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs in what has been their best season in well over a decade, and a main part of that success has been the acquisition of veteran point guard Chris Paul.
The Suns are hoping that Paul will be healthy enough to play in Game 5 tonight, but there is something almost as important as the playoff series against the Lakers that the team is keeping in mind – Pauls’ contract status.
According to Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, Paul is expected to decline the player option in hopes of securing another lucrative multi-year contract and could be seeking a contract in the range of three-years and $100 million.
Paul’s next lucrative contract will likely be the last of his career, so it’s understandable that he would want to cash in one final time on a big contract. Whether or not the Suns are willing to pony up the cash to land Paul to a multi-year contract remains to be seen.
