Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers certainly wasn’t expecting a limited role as the team kicked off their 2022 regular season last week against the Buffalo Bills, which they lost 31-10 last Thursday.
According to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, Rams head coach Sean McVay said he’d had a conversation with Akers about needing to play with more urgency, adding that the discussion is “a result of my confidence in him and the expectations we have and what we need him to be, which isn’t anything more than what he’s capable of.”
Akers said that conversation happened during training camp and wasn’t expecting a limited role in Week 1.
“If Coach don’t think I’m being urgent, then [I need to] be more urgent,” Akers said. “That’s what it comes down to.”
Akers also commented on McVay’s request for more urgency saying – “Probably more so in practice, I would think. Not in a game, obviously, because that was the first game. Probably practice.
“Whatever Coach says, I’m going to take it and I’m going to learn from it. Whatever you want to say. I’m going to take it and learn from it and go from there. Whether I think it’s right or not, maybe I’m not always right.”
“And I want to improve,” Akers said. “I don’t think I’m perfect.”
