The New York Giants didn’t take long to restructure the contract of franchise quarterback Daniel Jones, who became one of the highest-paid QBs in the NFL this year, signing a four-year $160 million this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Giants have restructured Jones’ new deal converting $8.42 million of his base salary into a signing bonus and creating $6.315 million in cap space in the process.
Jones will now get some of his money sooner, while the Giants create some much needed cap space, over $8 million, which should come in handy as the season is set to kickoff and teams continue to tweak their rosters.
Jones contract makes him the ninth-highest-paid signal-caller in the league by AAV, which is $40 million, and has him on par with the Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford and the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott.
Denver Broncos’ quarterback Russell Wilson ($48.5M), Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray ($46.1M), Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson ($46M), Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes ($45M), and the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen ($43M) are among the leaders.
The three highest-paid quarterbacks all signed extensions this offseason, including the Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert at $52.5 million, the Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson at $52 million and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts at $51 million which should keep sports social media talking.
