Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard is the cornerstone of the franchise, and the organization makes sure to include him in a number of important decisions, including gathering his input on roster decisions.
“Yeah, I mean in the offseason I have personal relationships with my teammates so I don’t like to be the guy responsible for saying, ‘All right, let’s do this and let’s get rid of this guy and let’s bring in this guy,’” Lillard said, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick. “But (the Blazers front office) asked me, you know, to name a few players that I liked, that I felt like could help our team. And I did that. And you know, our front office did their job. I didn’t go in there (and) demand anything. They just asked me the names of players I liked, and that’s what I did.”
During the offseason, the Blazers brought in Robert Covington and Derrick Jones Jr., and Lillard is thrilled with the impact the players have had on the team, specifically on defense.
“I think that we did a great job of bringing in guys that can actually help our team. You know, I think DJ and RoCo both make us a better team defensively.”
