The Kansas City Chiefs have decided not to use their franchise tag on veteran left tackle Orlando Brown in an unexpected move that could allow Brown to hit the open free agency market, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Brown and the Chiefs couldn’t agree on a long-term contract last offseason so Brown ended up playing under the franchise tag for the 2022 season, which earned him around $16.6 million. The two sides will now have until March 13th to work out a long-term contract or Brown will be free to negotiate with other teams.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs may be making another big move as they are expected to release star defensive end Frank Clark as the two sides were unable to find any common ground on a reworked deal over the last few weeks.
