The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their regular season opener against the Detroit Lions in what many sports media personalities believe can be a special year for the Chiefs, but they will have to embark on starting their season without defensive anchor Chris Jones who is holding out.
Jones has been in a holdout following the stalling of contract negotiations with the team, and many NFL journalists have reported on Jones’ stance that he is willing to miss games, up until Week 8, as part of his holdout.
Chiefs’ superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke about the team forging into a new season, even without their defensive cornerstone.
“At this point, you just prepare to play the game with the guys that are in the building, and let the front office and stuff handle that,” Mahomes said, via NBC Sports. “But we’ve got a tough test with the Detroit Lions. We’re gonna try to focus on how we can win with the guys that are here.”
The Chiefs would much rather have Jones on the field for the title defense and their chase for another NFL title, but they will have to move forward without him, at least for the start of the regular season.
