The Pittsburgh Steelers, who had already lost quarterback Kenny Pickett to injury during their game against the Arizona Cardinals, thought that they would be without star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick for an important push for the playoffs when the safety broke his hand during the second quarter.
Despite the injury, Fitzpatrick says that he will play on Thursday when the Steelers take on the New England Patriots.
Fitzpatrick’s hand was casted during the first of two lengthy severe weather delays, and he didn’t miss any snaps as a result.
“I couldn’t grab with it,” Fitzpatrick said, according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “But I was able to still play and didn’t miss any plays. … I think I did it making a tackle and then a few plays later, I tried to punch with it, and that’s when I really noticed it.
“… I’ll be fine. We’ll probably just wrap it up, clip it up like we did today and keep it moving.”
Sunday was the Pro Bowl safety’s first game back after he missed the previous four games with a hamstring injury and it looks like he won’t miss any time due to his latest injury, although head coach Mike Tomlin was mum on his status moving forward.
“We need to look no further than the mirror,” Tomlin said of the loss, according to CBS Sports. “We didn’t do it today. And we’ve got a short week. So no time to feel sorry for ourselves and things of that nature. We’ve got fast business approaching.”
